Co-founder and co-chairman of IOTA Board of Directors Dominik Schiener told that stolen in a hacker attack tokens for $11 million discovered and stored as evidence in a joint investigation with Europol.
On January 24, it became known that a joint investigation by Europol, which involved British and German law enforcement agencies, led to the arrest of a 36-year-old citizen suspected of stealing IOTA tokens for 11.4 million dollars, at least 85 victims around the world in the period from last January.
Iota has been helping the police investigation for months, Dominik Schiener said, adding that his team expected to discover a criminal hacker group, and not a one citizen “with a good education and a normal job.”
It is reported that the hacker chose the victims among the users of for now broken site, which created security SIDS for IOTA wallets and was hacked by them, so that he managed to seize the cryptocurrency funds of $11 million.
