Chinese Ministry Intends That Blockchain Can Improve Trust To Charity Organizations

The Chinese government agency responsible for social services plans to adopt the blockchain technology to update its current charity tracking system, a step aimed at attracting more attention to public donations.

On Monday, the Ministry of Civil Affairs released a plan of action for 2018-2022, which identified several areas in which it seeks to use Internet technologies to increase the transparency of social services.

Part of the plan indicates that the Ministry will decide to create a blockchain solution that will be used to upgrade the existing charity tracking system by the end of 2018, with the completion of the project planned for 2020.

All this is due to the fact that China’s charitable activities are mired in disputes after online scandals in recent years have led to public distrust of the system.

In its plan, the Ministry notified the regional and municipal authorities that the blocking network integrates existing state-owned charitable databases with online donation services managed by the private sector. Thus, data on charitable donations made through various services will be visible to the public through a distributed network.

At present, in addition to traditional charitable organizations, Internet giants such as Alibaba and Tencent have also launched their own donation services through mobile applications.
