Almost A Billion Dollars Were Stolen By Hackers In 2018 From Cryptocurrency Exchanges
The company from the United States believes that over the past 9 months, the volume of stolen assets reached 927 million dollars. This is almost 250% higher than last year.
Analysts CipherTrace also recorded an increasing number of thefts in the fork 20-60 million dollars, the total damage from which in the third quarter reached 173 million dollars. Analysts came to the conclusion that since 2009, large crypto-exchanges from States with weak anti-money laundering legislation have used the first crypto-coin for laundering $ 2.5 billion.
Earlier, CipherTrace CEO said that by the end of this year the number of laundered crypto assets will grow to $ 1.5 billion. At the same time, in 2017, criminals trying to hide illegal income, laundered 266 million dollars. This is 3 times less than in the first six months of 2018.
To combat the negative trend, the company launched the “anti-wash”platform CipherTrace AML based on artificial intelligence. Innovative methods of analysis and public cloud services are used to identify potential sources of money laundering.
