THE LARGEST NETWORK OF DEPARTMENT STORES IN VENEZUELA HAS STARTED ACCEPTING CRYPTOCURRENCY PAYMENTS
In recent years, the Venezuelan population has had to cope with an increasingly difficult economic situation. The destructive economic policy of the country’s authorities has led to a complete loss of public confidence in the government, and many Venezuelans have found salvation from the huge inflation in cryptocurrencies. This explains why the largest network of supermarkets in the country began to accept cryptocurrencies as payment for goods, which is rare even in countries with a prosperous economy.
Traki is an extensive Department store network operating in Venezuela for over 30 years, with 49 branches in major cities across the country.
According to the company’s public social media profiles, Traki has started accepting a number of popular cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Dash, Ethereum and Litecoin.
A REDDIT user under the name ImVito said that she bought clothes and stationery in Traki in the amount of $260 to donate them to poor children. The entire purchase was paid for with BTC. In proof of her words, the woman posted a video which shows the process of payment and visible people in uniform Traki.
Recall, from August 20, 2018 Venezuela entered into circulation a new “sovereign Bolivar”, the rate of which is tied to the cryptocurrency Petro, secured by the country’s oil reserves. Petro received the official status of “crypto asset supported by the Venezuelan government, which is fully provided with the national oil reserve of Venezuela”. The issue of this national currency is carried out by the Central Bank of the country: in total, 100 million Petro-coins will be issued on the basis of the NEM blockchain.
